GGL Investigates ADI Predictstreet Over World Cup Advertising

The German gambling regulator has opened a formal review into ADI Predictstreet’s World Cup advertising campaigns this week. The investigation examines whether the operator’s pitch-side branding violates national licensing and marketing rules.

ADI Predictstreet received a betting intermediary license in Gibraltar in April and was subsequently named the official prediction market partner for the FIFA World Cup. The GGL review focuses on the operator’s prominent display during tournament broadcasts, including Germany’s opening match on the KiKa channel. Authorities are assessing whether the service constitutes unlicensed gambling activity and whether German residents can legally access the platform.

Regulatory Scope and Market Context

German law prohibits unlicensed gambling operators from marketing within the country. If violations are confirmed, the regulator may issue cease-and-desist orders to ADI Predictstreet and associated service providers, including payment processors and hosting companies. ADI representatives stated, "We operate no marketing or advertising activities targeted at Germany." The company attributed broadcast visibility to global sponsorship agreements.

German broadcaster ZDF noted that pitch-side visuals are supplied by the host broadcaster and fall under the Media State Treaty.

The review aligns with a wider European regulatory shift. Nine gambling authorities across the continent recently launched a coordinated assessment of prediction markets. The sector remains unregulated in most European jurisdictions, with Gibraltar standing as the only formal licensing hub, while multiple legal frameworks classify prediction trading as gambling.
