The Gaming in the Nordics launch event convened industry executives at the Better Collective headquarters in Copenhagen on 3 July 2026. The gathering focused on regulatory frameworks, operator compliance, and player protection measures across Scandinavian iGaming markets.
Morten Ronde, CEO of the Danish Online Gambling Association and partner at Nordic Legal, stated that Nordic territories will implement the next generation of iGaming regulations first. He attributed this timeline to regional pragmatism and a consistent track record of early technology adoption. Anders Dorph, director of the Danish regulator Spillemyndigheden, outlined current compliance standards and player monitoring procedures.
Dorph confirmed that operators holding Danish licenses maintain a strong commitment to regulatory adherence.
Market Health and Player Protection
Pontus Lindwall, CEO of Betsson, and Jesper Kärrbrink, CEO of Immense Group, presented operator perspectives on regional market dynamics. Lindwall identified three requirements for maintaining a stable market with high player channelization: competitive service offerings, effective player safeguards, and consistent regulatory enforcement.
He emphasized that gambling carries inherent risks for certain demographics, making regulated access essential for consumer oversight. Lindwall noted: "We are in a business where there is harm. We must admit this and reflect on this.
We also need to be able to reach these players, which we can only do if they are inside of the regulated system."
Additional panelists included Jesper Søgaard, co-founder and co-CEO of Better Collective; Birgitte Sand, CEO of Birgitte Sand & Associates; Pekka Ilmivalta, head of office at Nordic Legal – Finland; Josh Hodgson, COO of H2 Gambling Capital; Daniel Valiollahi, acting secretary general of BOS; Rasmus Kjaergaard, CEO of Mindway AI; and Jeffrey Haas, chair of Blask.
Peter-Paul de Goeij, managing consultant at QuodBonum.se, chaired the session. Event founder Willem van Oort confirmed that the invitation-only launch will expand into a full conference starting in 2027. Source: Gaming in the Nordics press materials.
