Caesars Partners with Maine Tribes for iGaming Launch

Caesars Entertainment announced on June 24 that it has extended its partnership with three Wabanaki Nations in Maine to cover online casino gaming. The agreement positions the company to launch its digital portfolio in the state following the recent legalization of iGaming.

The long-term accord involves the Houlton Band of Maliseet Indians, the Mi’kmaq Nation, and the Penobscot Nation. Under the terms, Caesars will introduce three distinct online brands: Caesars Palace Online Casino, Caesars Sportsbook & Casino, and Horseshoe Online Casino. Financial details of the arrangement were not disclosed.

Regulatory Framework and Market Position

Maine approved iGaming legislation in January, becoming the eighth state to authorize internet casinos. The law grants exclusive wagering rights to the state's four federally recognized tribes, requiring commercial operators to form alliances to participate. Caesars already operates a sportsbook in Maine, which launched in 2023.

Industry analysts suggest that Caesars, DraftKings, and FanDuel may control the majority of the new licenses due to their existing dominance in the state's sports betting sector. While some commercial venues expressed concern regarding competition from online platforms, Caesars and DraftKings were not vocal opponents of the bill.

A fourth license remains available for potential bidders such as BetMGM or Penn Entertainment.
